Workshop Title: Practical Implementation Strategies for Active Learning

This workshop is limited to 25 participants.

Workshop Description: Many well-intentioned instructors experience roadblocks when attempting to implement active learning strategies in the classroom.  In this workshop, participants will discuss common barriers to classroom implementation of active learning and strategies to address them. This workshop is best suited for those that are familiar with active learning strategies and either currently use active learning strategies in their teaching or wish to implement active learning in future teaching.

Presenter’s Biography: Dr. Dipa Shah is the Associate Director for Teaching and Learning within MIT’s Teaching and Learning Lab. Her primary roles include teaching in the TLL Teaching Certificate Program, facilitating workshops on teaching and learning, and working with teachers on MIT’s campus – from teaching assistants to faculty – to improve their pedagogy. She is interested in how to best design instructional materials for different learning contexts (K12, higher ed, formal, informal, open). The focus her education work has been to develop print-based and video-based instructional materials for both formal K12 and higher ed contexts and informal K12 contexts using research-based principles. She is also interested in the development of processes and technological tools to facilitate curriculum design and redesign at the class or program levels.
